Appeal to find bogus social worker
Staffordshire police are appealing for help in tracing a woman who posed as a social worker and tried to examine an 11-week-old baby.

The woman called at a house in Stanfields near Tunstall on Wednesday morning saying she had concerns for the child's welfare.

She appeared to be wearing a social services identification badge and said her name was Mary.

Sergeant Paul Trevor said it was vital that people knew exactly who they were letting into their homes.

'Check closely'

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "We treat any incidents of this nature very seriously.

"Fortunately it isn't an incident which happens too regularly but we have concerns when it does.

"We would ask that people check identities and if there isn't an identity badge, then not to let them in the door.

"Even if their is identity badges, they must be checked very, very closely."
