Baby in intensive care
Cambridgeshire Police at Peterborough
Cambridgeshire Police are investigating the incident
A nine-week-old baby from Peterborough is in intensive care in hospital after allegedly being shaken violently.

Police arrested a 20-year-old man after the baby boy was transferred from Peterborough District Hospital (PDH) to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge, to receive specialist care.

The baby's 19-year-old mother was on a night out on Friday when she received a call at about 2300 BST, to say her child was unwell.

When she returned home, she took him to the accident and emergency department at PDH where a paediatrician said the child's injuries were consistent with him having been shaken.

He was transferred to Addenbrooke's intensive care unit where his condition is stable.

On Tuesday, Inspector Steve Shillings, of Cambridgeshire Police, confirmed a 20-year-old man from Peterborough had been arrested on Saturday afternoon on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to Parkside Police Station in Cambridge and was later released on bail to reappear at Thorpe Wood police station on 18 July.

Police have not named the baby or the arrested man.
