Couple's 70 years of marriage
George and Violet Taylor
The couple went to school together
A couple from Kent reached a marriage milestone when they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

George and Violet Taylor, from Gillingham, married in Chatham in 1933.

On Thursday, family and friends gathered to mark their platinum anniversary.

Among those who gave the couple congratulations was the Queen who sent a card from Buckingham Palace.

Mr and Mrs Taylor lived 50 yards from each other when they were children and went to the same school.

Mr Taylor, 94, said: "We had a good life in 1933 and it went on and on and then the war came and spoilt it.

Mrs Taylor, 93, added: "We have had arguments but we never had a really serious quarrel."

Mr Taylor said: "A lot of it is giving way to each other. If one is wrong the other one accepts it."
