Helicopter to aid fishing survey
Collecting shellfish on mudflats
The low spring tides are set to attract people hunting for shellfish
A helicopter will be used for the first time to carry out a survey of low-water fishing in Jersey.

Tidal conditions mean some islanders will be keen to hunt for shellfish this weekend.

The low spring tides will allow people to search for ormers, crabs, lobsters and other fish.

University student Shelly Hawkins and sea fisheries officer Greg Morel are to carry out the survey in a helicopter on Good Friday.

Film coastline

They will measure how many people are low-water fishing and how this affects fish stocks.

They will be filming the island's coastline as they travel around Jersey.

A request has been made to air traffic control for the helicopter to fly below 500ft, depending on visibility.

There is also a possibility they might fly over the Ecrehous and the Minquiers reefs.
