Cast your vote by television
Residents in Shrewsbury and Atcham are some of the first electors in England to vote using their televisions.

Residents with digital television were able to vote from Thursday using a special pin number.

The council is piloting the scheme and are also offering people the option of voting by internet, telephone or post.

The authority's deputy returning officer Mike Croston, says at least six people "had made history" by 0830 BST on Thursday.

"We are the one of the first councils in the country to offer this service," he said.

"Generally our election turn-out is above the national average but it's still disappointing."

He said he hoped the new scheme would encourage more people to vote.

Residents have until 1 May to register their vote.
