Phone Booth topped the US box office chart
|
Phone Booth's release date was postponed last year because the plotline bore a resemblance to the Washington sniper shootings.
Stuart Shepard (Colin Farrell) is an arrogant PR executive who becomes the target of a sniper, played by Kiefer Sutherland.
"Phone Booth sees Joel Schumacher making up for some bad recent form with a tight, credible thriller, simmering with tension," said BBC News Online's Stephen Dowling.
But what did you think?
Did it have you on the edge of your seat? Or is it predictable fare?
Why all the fuss for? This film has taken the best ideas from Liberty Stands Still with Wesley Snipes and turns them into a Hollywood remake. Watch the original.

Hey, with Colin Farrell, it had to be good. Gotta love that rugged Irish charm! Grrrrrr.

This film has a simple but very effective concept. You cannot imagine that a film set in a phone booth is worth leaving the house to watch- but it really is. Joel Schumacher cranks up the tension and Colin Farrell delivers a calling card to Hollywood which proves there's more to him than women and Ballykissangel.
Phone Booth is tense little film which deserves to do well.

I actually saw this in the States last week. Good film, reminds me of a cross between Speed and Swordfish.

It was thrilling, which was largely down to the brilliant performances of Colin Farrell and Kiefer Sutherland

Not a bad film, but a not Schumacher's best. After the well-deserved drubbing he got for bastardizing the Batman films, he's made an effort to return to form: Speechless being his best attempt yet, but he's trying to recapture the dark intensity of films like Falling Down and simply falling short.
Jamie Lewis, USA
Very gripping. Perhaps the opening narration wasn't needed, and some too-neat plotting later on, but this really deserves to be a hit.

I have just come back from seeing this movie and am well impressed with it. It takes some serious writing and directing skills to keep you entertained with such a fixed environment.

It was great! It makes a difference to see Kiefer Sutherland playing a bad guy.
Sean, UK
Totally excellent - Colin is simply superb.

I thought this film was an original, well thought-out and stylishly shot thriller. However, a bad script (especially for the irritating Sutherland) and the obligatory feel-good American moments detracted from what could have been a brilliant film as opposed to a merely entertaining one.

Farrell does a fine job as Stu. Storyline reminds me of Speed but lacks the edge of the seat tension. Slightly predictable but worth a watch.

Phone Booth I feel is probably the best film I have seen in recent years. I found that Colin Farrell really was able to carry the scenes on his own, and that this movie will probably be his best ever. Kiefer Sutherland portrays a sadistic sniper with comedic tendencies better than anyone else could ever do. I could watch this movie many times over.

Good concept, mediocre start, good middle - it managed to keep you interested for an hour despite being a one-location film (a la panic room, which i think did it better). Unfortunately it was always heading for a typical and extremely predictable 'happy' ending (albeit with a slight 'twist' of the most unimaginative of sorts)... worth seeing if you have nothing better to see, and unless you like S Club, there probably isn't...
... roll on Matrix: Reloaded

I thought it was a film that did keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. It was thrilling, which was largely down to the brilliant performances of Colin Farrell and Kiefer Sutherland. I think there was certainly a hidden message in the film, that actually takes it away from simply being a sniper flick.
Overall a decent film and i would recommend people to go and see it.

Excellent film, clever script and concept. Reminded me of the suspense and tension of those great Tales of the Unexpected series. Colin Farrell is Then Man.

OK, was I watching a different movie to the rest of the reviewers?! The film was awful. It was slow and predictable. It's one and only saving grace was the direction, which whilst reminiscent of the 1960s, was far better than the story or the acting. By the end I was praying for Colin Farrell to be shot!

What a tense and exciting film! Who would have thought a film set almost entirely in a phone box could be so gripping.
Colin Farrell plays his part to perfection as does the voice at the end of the telephone (Kiefer Sutherland).
Put all that together with some excellent direction by Joel Schumacher and you have a winning combination!
