Good Samaritan's cash reward
A man who reported a case of domestic violence in which a woman lost the sight one eye, has been awarded £100 by a court.

Sitting at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge Richard Benson said public funds should be used to pay the money to 35-year-old Gregory Richards, 35.

The court had been hearing a case in which 55-year-old Philip Hooley, from Bulwell in Nottingham, pleaded guilty to five charges of assault.

The prosecution said that his victim, Maxine Weaver, had suffered a brain injury and also lost the sight of an eye.

Mr Richards, from Narborough, Leicestershire, reported the problems, after hearing one woman in four would suffer domestic violence at some time.

He will also receive a commendation from the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire.

Hooley was remanded in custody for three weeks but was told to expect a custodial sentence.
