Why did we go to war
Tony Blair and George Bush
On Newsnight we focused again on the issue of weapons of mass destruction, and on the question which just won't go away: exactly why did we go to war with Iraq? At the G8 conference in Evian, Tony Blair appeared to lose his temper over the allegations from Clare Short and others, that he had duped the British public over the reasons for the war. The Prime Minister also appealed to people to "have a little patience" over the search for WMD.

G8 conference
Meanwhile in Evian world leaders have been discussing the global economy, the middle East, combating terrorism, and, yes, Iraq. We reported from there on what they've agreed, and on what must have been an interesting meeting between Presidents Bush and Chirac.

Beckham kidnap trial
Closer to home, we looked at the collapse of the trial of five men charged in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap Victoria Beckham. The men were arrested after the News of the World exposed their plans - but the prosecutors have decided the evidence of a key witness was unreliable.

Zimbabwe
And we looked at the current plight of Zimbabwe, where opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been arrested.
