Biker named after police chase
A man who was killed after he ran on to a motorway as he fled the police has been named.

Phillip Powell, from Merseyside, died in the early hours of Sunday, when he was struck by a taxi on the M53 motorway in Cheshire.

Mr Powell, 25, and a pillion passenger had jumped off a motorbike they were on in Ellesmere Port, after failing to stop when a police patrol car tried to pull them over

The men ran in different directions when they left the machine, at junction seven, and Mr Powell was knocked down and killed on the northbound carriageway.

'Loving father'

Mr Powell, a father of one from Bromborough, died from his injuries at the scene.

His family described him as "a loving partner, son and father".

Mr Powell's passenger escaped but later turned himself in to police, where he was questioned and released.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said the incident was being investigated by the Police Complaints Authority.
