Appeal after biker dies
Police in Merseyside are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died in a road accident.

Michael Waters was riding his bike in Melling on Wednesday night when it was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa.

Mr Waters, 38, from Prescot, was taken to Fazakerley hospital, where he died.

Police believe Mr Waters may have been overtaking a car, on Prescot Road, when he lost control and came off his machine.

Abandoned car

Officers want to speak to the driver of the car - thought to be a Peugeot - which Mr Waters was overtaking when the accident occurred.

They also want to trace the driver and passenger of a Vauxhall Cavalier that was found abandoned after it was in collision with another car, which stopped at the scene.

The accident happened at about 1950 BST on Wednesday, close to the Hen and Chickens pub.

Sergeant Gary Mason, from the Merseyside police traffic department, said: "The Hen and Chickens pub is frequented on a Wednesday night by motorcyclists from all over the region, and further afield, who meet there.

"When officers arrived on the scene, there were upwards of 100 motorcyclists in the area and I would urge any of those bikers who saw the events, and might not have spoken to us, to get in touch."
