Hospital upgrade starts
Work is to start on a multi-million pound redevelopment of Hinckley Hospital.

The town's mayor, Councillor Donald Wright, will formally cut the first sod of turf on Thursday afternoon.

The project will replace two old-fashioned "Nightingale" wards with brand new accommodation built on the Sunnyside site, on the outskirts of the town.

The number of beds will increase from 36 to 46.

The project will cost £6.5m and compliment the existing hospital on Mount Road.

Work should be finished by the middle of next year.

The scheme is the first phase of a major long-term refurbishment of hospital services in the borough.
