After 75 years in Cambridge, Woolworths is planning to shut up shop for the last time ever this weekend.

The store will close its Sidney Street branch on Saturday at 1800 BST.

Woolworths made the decision to pull out of the city after the owner of its building Commercial Union accepted an offer for the building by the Next clothes store.

A spokesman for Woolworths said there are no plans to relocate the Sidney Street store elsewhere in the city as there are no suitable sites.

A spokesman for Woolworths said: "We are extremely sorry to be closing the Cambridge store that has been part of the high street for over sixty years.

"However the landlord was made an offer he could not refuse and subsequently our property was sold on to Next plc.

"Woolworths has over 10 stores within 30 minutes' drive, including Newmarket, St Ives and Royston."
