The fire threatened historic buildings in Tombland

Eight fire appliances and several specialist units have been tackling a fire in the centre of Norwich.

Fire crews were called to the La Tasca restaurant just before 0530 BST.

The restaurant is in an historic building in the Tombland area, backing on to the city's Cathedral Close.

Many legal and commercial businesses are situated in the area, as well as the Norwich Diocese offices.

Fire officers have been contacting key holders in nearby premises.

They say traffic is likely to be disrupted on Monday morning on the major route into the city centre.
