Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors were due to visit Swindon on Monday to check the safety of building sites in the Wiltshire town.
They are responding to concerns about the number of people who have been injured at work.
There were 26 falling injuries on building sites in the county last year - eight of which happened in Swindon.
The HSE inspectors will be visiting sites across the town over the next two weeks. A spokesman said they would take immediate enforcement action should any sites be judged unsafe.
