Death at cliffs

Police are continuing their investigations into two suspicious deaths in Cornwall.

Two areas in and around Newquay were sealed off after the bodies of two people were discovered at separate locations on Sunday.

A man was found dead by a member of the public in Carnanton Woods, near the Newquay to St Mawgan road. Police forensic teams attended the scene.

In the second separate incident, a man was arrested after a woman's body was discovered near cliffs at Dane Road in Newquay.

Body recovered

The second body was that of a 28-year-old woman which was discovered just after 1400 BST on Sunday by a member of the public.

The woman is thought to have fallen 80 feet (24 metres) onto rocks. Coastguards recovered her body.

Scenes of crime officers have been examining the scene, but the circumstances of what happened are still unclear.

However, police believe she had been staying in Newquay for the past few weeks in a tent just above the cliffs.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body on Monday afternoon.

A 34 year-old man from the Newquay area was later arrested and is in custody at Newquay police station.
