People making a getaway for the Easter holiday weekend are facing disruption on Thursday as a result of a rail strike.
The 24-hour action, by members of the RMT union, is expected to disrupt services run by Arriva Trains Merseyside and Virgin's West Coast routes.
Manchester Airport is expecting about 50,000 passengers a day during the break as people go abroad for the holiday.
The Automobile Association has also warned of traffic jams on the roads and has urged drivers to set off early.
They are also advised to plan their route to avoid major roads and check oil and water levels in their vehicles.
