Fine threat over fly-posters

Posters can attract a £1,000 fine
Twelve people are facing prosecution under a council's "get tough" campaign against fly-posting.

Council officers have been taking photographs of illegal posters and then sending letters to those thought responsible, asking for them to be removed.

The entertainment venues, promoters and acts who receive the letters are given 48 hours to remove the posters or face prosecution.

All 12 people, who are to be questioned about not removing posters within the deadline, could be fined up to £1,000 each.

The council calls fly-posting a "blight on the city" and says it costs £55,000 per year to fund two people to remove them.

The venues will also be threatened with the loss of their public entertainment licences if found guilty by the courts.
