A man was knocked down and killed on Sunday after running on to a motorway as he fled police officers.
The 25-year-old was on a motorcycle with another man in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, at about 0330 BST when officers ordered them to pull over.
The pair did not stop and were followed by police as they sped towards the M53.
At the approach road to junction 7, both men jumped off the motorcycle and ran in opposite directions.
One of them ran up an embankment to the north-bound carriageway.
He was then hit by a black cab travelling on the motorway.
The man, from Bromborough, Merseyside, died at the scene. Police were still seeking the second man.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "It was a tragic incident and we are appealing for witnesses."
The incident is likely to be investigated by the Police Complaints Authority.
