EU summit riots
There have been clashes between police and thousands of protesters staging an anti-war rally outside a European Union summit in Athens.

EU leaders are preparing to sign a treaty which will allow 10 more countries to join next year.

The meeting has been overshadowed by divisions within Europe over the situation in Iraq - although Tony Blair claims they are united in wanting Iraq to be controlled by its people.

The European Union must paper over the cracks
There may be riots in the streets of Athens but within the EU Summit conference centre the continent's largest love-in is breaking out.

Can "old Europe" paper over the post-war cracks as "new Europe" signs on the EU's dotted line?

Our political editor, Martha Kearney, reported from Greece.

Abu Abbas
The US arrested Palestinian terrorist Abu Abbas in Baghdad - but is he as big a catch as the US are making out?

And, if not, why is the Pentagon trumpeting the event with such pride? Iain Watson investigated.

Bush popularity
One US claim which is undeniable has to be President Bush's huge domestic popularity.

Will he throw it away in a similar fashion to his father in 1991-2?

Our North American correspondent Tom Carver asked that very question.

Planet Zog leaders
And on the day the GMB elected their new leader, a government minister described the 2003 breed of union boss as descended from "Planet Zog".

We asked the GMB's new man, Kevin Curran, just how "alien" that description is.
