Air museum's cash plea
Jet engine

An aircraft museum in need of a home is making a new plea for cash.

Gloucestershire's Jet Age Museum has been without a permanent base for more than two years.

Its organisers need a £500,000 lottery grant to build a hangar for the collection in Staverton, near Gloucester.

Campaigners are asking the local authority to top this up with a grant of £250,000.

Aerospace heritage

And politicians are considering putting in an extra £50,000 to help manage the project for two years.

The museum's collection, which celebrates the county's aerospace heritage, includes a number of aircraft and related artefacts.

The museum wants to put a full-scale replica of Sir Frank Whittle's first jet, which was developed in Gloucestershire, on display outside the new building.

An earlier museum bid for £1.4m lottery cash was rejected in September 2001.
