Couple named champion slimmers

A couple who once boasted a combined weight of 45 stone (286.36kg) have won a top slimming award.

Terry Short and Alison Brown, crowned Mr and Mrs 2003 by Slimming World, lost 19 stone (120.9kg) between them.

Alison has gone from 23st 5lb (148.63kg) to 11st 6lb (72.72kg), while partner Terry has gone from 23st 7lb (149.54kg) to 13st 11lb (87.72kg).

The couple, from east Hampshire, lived on takeaways and fast food meals instead of buying supermarket produce.

Alison, 30, said: "Shopping was so exhausting that after an hour we'd go and get a takeaway.

Humiliating experience

"The pizza delivery man was our social life."

She described how, when in hospital for the birth of her second child, it took six people to move her across the bed.

She said: "It was such a humiliating experience.

"I still remember that feeling and it brings a tear to my eye."

Alison and Terry, 39, say their weight loss has given them more energy for their two children, Jake, five, and two-year-old Katie, who have both been diagnosed as autistic.

Alison has raised £1,200 for the National Autistic Society by getting friends and family to sponsor her weight loss.
