Road repair period could be extended
Road works sign
Roadworks are restricted to during the winter only
Jersey motorists could face roadwork delays for longer periods.

The length of time during which contractors are allowed to dig up roads could be extended under proposals being looked at by utility companies and the Public Services Committee.

Except for essential repairs, roadworks are not allowed during the summer months.

But the president of the committee, Deputy Maurice Dubras, has said now the tourist season has shrunk, works could be spread out over a longer period of time.

Deputy Dubras said: "We are going to consult with Tourism and with anyone else with an interest in this to see whether, in fact, we can extend the period during which work goes on.

"Tourism used to be so prolonged, with so many people travelling, that it was felt necessary to keep work very restricted during the winter.

"What we feel now is that we want to extend that."
