Drinkers wrestle pub gunman
A motorcyclist who marched into a crowded pub with a handgun may have accidentally shot himself as a group of drinkers wrestled with him.

West Midlands Police said the gunman entered the Lodge pub in Solihull at about 2200 BST on Friday, seemingly to take revenge on a man he had fought with earlier that night.

A group of drinkers near the main entrance to the pub on Yardley Wood Road spotted the gun and grappled with the offender, who was still wearing his helmet.

A force spokeswoman said it is thought the weapon was fired because the motorcyclist staggered outside bleeding.

Scooter escape

The drama began to unfold at about 2115 BST when the fight believed to have sparked the incident broke out.

The motorcyclist returned to the pub with a handgun tucked into his waistband about 45 minutes later.

He waited in the car park for about five minutes after staggering out of the pub, driving off on a scooter shortly before officers turned up.

Detective Inspector Mark Evans said: "There is concern for the welfare of this person, as it is believed he may have gunshot injuries or other serious injuries as a result of the altercation."

The pub was closed on Saturday while a forensic examination was carried out.

An employee, who would not be named and refused to discuss the incident, said trade would resume on Sunday.
