Boy, 6, helps deliver baby
The Marrs family
Josh welcomes his baby brother into the family
A six-year-old has been hailed a hero for helping when his baby brother was born at their Flintshire home.

Josh helped his father Nick play midwife when his mother Julie Marrs went into labour in the middle of the night at their home in Lixwm, near Holywell.

Mr Marrs had dialled 999 and was relaying orders to the youngster when baby Ashley was born weighing 7lbs 3oz.

Hospital worker Julie said the delivery came as quite a shock.

Ambulance

"It all happened very quickly," she said.

"Nick rang for an ambulance but it was obvious I was not going to hang on until it arrived.

"Josh helped me get to the bath where I thought was the best place to go.

"He was a brilliant stand-in midwife and fortunately it was quite a smooth birth.

Nick Marrs

"I'm really proud of Josh and very grateful he was around to help."

Proud father Mr Marrs said he was amazed his son kept a cool head.

"He fetched towels and then comforted his mum and told her to keep calm," he said.

"As soon as the baby was born we put him on his mum's tummy and Josh was putting towels around him and his mum."

Mrs Marrs and baby Ashley were taken to hospital for a check up but the family are now back together in their Flintshire home.
