Hundreds stranded by rail hitch
A Virgin Cross Country train
Virgin said buses were being brought in for stranded passengers
Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Milton Keynes station after a breakdown in rail services.

Trains on the West Coast mainline were severely disrupted after overhead power lines came down between Bletchley and Milton Keynes at 0800 BST on Saturday.

Trains leaving London were stopping at Hemel Hempstead and trains from the north were forced to stop at Milton Keynes.

The disruption put up to one and a half hours on the journey from Glasgow to Euston.

Virgin Train ran replacement buses between the two stations.

At midday large crowds had gathered outside the station as they waited for the buses.

"Rolling stock and trains get out of place in these situations so there will be ongoing disruption," said spokesman David Ewart.

Services returned to normal on Saturday afternoon.
