Rail tree-felling sparks protests

More protests have taken place against tree-felling along railway lines in the Bristol area.

Residents in St Anne's turned out to demonstrate against the move after similar protests in Montpelier and St Werburghs.

Network Rail says the work has to be done to make the lines safe after years of neglect.

But residents say the action is heavy-handed.

'Nesting'

One told the BBC: "They desecrated the area in my opinion.

"We did not even know it was going to happen."

The contractors responsible for the work - which has been going on for several weeks now - spoke to residents on Tuesday.

Network Rail says the work at St Anne's will now stop until Autumn because of the nesting season.
