DNA test catches drink driver
A man who gave a false name when he was caught drink-driving was found out by DNA left on a breathalyser.

Stewart Birks was already banned from driving when he was stopped by police near Skegness.

Birks, from Buchan Street, Derby, was found to be over the drink-drive limit after taking a breathalyser test.

The 26-year-old gave police a false name but was identified by DNA taken from the tube used for the breath sample, Lincoln Crown Court was told on Friday.

Birks admitted perverting the course of justice, driving while disqualified, having no insurance and driving with excess alcohol in November, 2002.

He was placed on a two-year community rehabilitation order and banned from driving for five years.

Judge John Machin warned him he would go to prison if he appeared in court again.
