New 'dirty' fuel warning
Contaminated petrol
The fuel has strands of fibre-like material that can clog engines
Motorists in the North West are being warned of another case of contaminated fuel that is said to be causing breakdowns.

The RAC said there has been an increase in the number of cars breaking down in Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.

The motoring organisation warned of a similar problem earlier this month.

It is believed only 95 octane unleaded fuel is affected and the problem is thought to have arisen at a refinery or distribution depot, rather than at particular petrol stations.

Motorists are said to have experienced a loss of power in their vehicles.

Drivers affected are advised to keep the receipt from the fuel, and get their cars checked at a garage, before contacting trading standards officers.

The fuel looks like normal petrol, but is slightly cloudier due to strands of fibre-like material in the liquid that can block up the engine.
