New life for 91-year-old
Betty Ward
Betty Ward says she will miss her friends in England
A Coventry pensioner is celebrating Mothers' Day by emigrating to America to live with her son.

Betty Ward has lived in the city for more than 80 years.

But on Sunday, the 91-year-old will wave goodbye to her home and fly out to Ohio to live with her son Edward and his wife Debbie.

Mrs Ward, from Whitmore Park, said one of her most difficult farewells was to fellow members of Coventry's Over-60s Club, founded by her late husband, Harry, in 1981.

Looking forward

"I have known them for as long as the club has been going," she said.

"I will never forget my friends and I hope the club continues to go from strength to strength. - my husband would have liked that."

Although she said she would be sad to leave behind her grandson and granddaughter, Mrs Ward is looking forward to her new life in America.

"My son and his wife have a wonderful room prepared for me at their farmhouse," she said.

"I overlook the neighbouring forest, so I will be able to watch wild turkeys and deer come and go all day long.

"I'm sure Harry would have wanted to come too."

Mrs Ward will be accompanied on her journey to America by her granddaughter April.
