Two bailed over street death
Hugh Lewis
Hugh Lewis' death is suspicious

Two people arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Swansea have been released on bail.

Hugh Lewis was found dead on the pavement near his home in Adelaide Street late on Tuesday night.

A 25-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man from the Neath area were arrested by South Wales Police on Thursday.

Mr Lewis' son, who is serving in the Gulf, was told of his father's death on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old grandfather was found lying on the pavement outside his home at the Exchange Court building in Adelaide Street at 2330GMT on 25 March.

He had suffered head injuries.

Police and paramedics were called and he was taken to Singleton Hospital in the city where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Chief Inspector Ken Isaac

Police want to trace a man and a woman who were seen arguing with Mr Lewis at the scene.

They were also seen getting into a black London-type taxi cab which drove off towards the city centre.

Mr Lewis sent a food parcel to his son, Private Anthony Lewis, just a few days ago.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said: "This is a terrible tragedy.

"We cannot discuss this for operational and personal privacy reasons but the soldier will be given compassionate leave and allowed home if he so wishes."

An incident room has been set up at Cockett Police Station and the investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Ken Isaac.

Police say their enquiries are continuing and they have renewed their appeal for anyone with information to contact the incident room on 01792 456 999.
