Negotiator talks bridge man down
A man threatening to jump into the river at Evesham has been brought to safety by a police negotiator.

The incident began shortly before 0530 GMT on Saturday and resulted in the town's Bridge Street being closed off.

The 22-year-old man, who is from Evesham, climbed on to a narrow ledge on the parapet of Workman Bridge and threatened to jump in the River Avon.

A woman called the emergency services and a police negotiator was brought to the scene to talk the man down.

An ambulance waited on standby and fire crews launched an inflatable dinghy from the town's rowing club.

The man was brought down from the bridge around 0730 GMT. He was treated for injuries to his hands and is now in police custody.
