Boy hurt in hit-and-run crash
A 12-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries after he was in collision with a car in Manchester.

The driver of the car failed to stop, leaving the boy lying in the road after the collision, which happened in Newton Heath at about 1820 GMT on Friday.

The boy, who was from the Newton Heath area, was taken to Booth Hall Hospital where he underwent surgery for head and leg injuries.

He was then transferred to Manchester Children's Hospital, in Pendlebury, where his condition was described by doctors as "serious but stable" on Saturday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened as a silver Ford Escort travelled along Briscoe Lane towards its junction with Scotland Hall Lane.

The car, registration G200 JWA, was later found abandoned in Penzance Street, Miles Platting.

Witnesses saw three men of mixed race, wearing dark hooded tops, run from the car.
