Warning over walk-in thefts
Police have warned householders in Gloucestershire to lock outside doors and windows after walk-in thefts almost doubled within the last month.

In the first two weeks of March there were 28 burglaries within the Cotswolds and Stroud areas, with nine walk-in thefts.

This compares to 42 break-ins in the last two weeks, including 16 walk-in thefts.

Officers believe the offences may be the work of opportunist thieves who have been exploiting the recent good weather.

Thousands of pounds worth of property, including computers, mobile phones, cash, televisions, and jewellery, has been taken.

Pc Mark Godsland said: "If windows and doors are left unlocked while people are in the garden or elsewhere in the house then a thief is left with a golden opportunity to snatch property.

"We would urge all home owners to lock doors and windows, especially if they are planning to spend time outside."
