Hundreds want 'empty' bus saved
A rural bus route is being scrapped despite hundreds of local people signing a petition against the plan.

Up to £30,000 of public money is likely to be saved by the scrapping of the Reading Buses route, which services areas between Maidenhead and Reading.

Nearly 300 people in Wargrave, Knowl Hill and Littlewick Green signed a petition to keep it running.

But a survey showed that the service was only being used by an average of seven people each day.

Service replaced

A meeting on Thursday confirmed a decision by Windsor and Maidenhead Council and Wokingham District Council to stop subsidising the 127 bus.

But the petition, entitled Save Our Buses, said: "We have no other forms of transport.

"Some people need buses to get to work some for shopping and the most important is to get to the hospitals in Reading as that is our nearest hospital from our doctor's surgery."

The service will now be replaced by revised Hurley Link and Twyford Link services, starting on Monday.
