Water and electricity facilities are to be improved
Almost £500,000 is being given to Lincolnshire for the refurbishment of sites for travellers.

The government money is going to two facilities near Lincoln and Grantham.

Nearly £340,000 is to be invested in the Washingborough Road site near Lincoln and the Travellers' Rest on Spitalgate Hill in Grantham.

The government says it is vital to keep such sites open with good amenities.

Ministers believe they allow travellers to live in harmony with surrounding communities, and reduce the need for illegal camps.

The total cost of the work in Lincolnshire will amount to nearly £450,000.

It is likely to include improvements to drainage and modernisation of electricity and water supplies.

The government is also due to consult with police and local councils on new guidelines for dealing with unauthorised camps.
