Teenager donates kidney to father
Dave and Mike Edwards
Dave made the promise to his father eight years ago
A teenager is to fulfil a promise he made to his father when he was 10 years old by giving him one of his kidneys.

Dave Edwards, who is now 18, says he has no doubt he is doing the right thing.

His father Mike, of Howden, East Yorkshire, has been using a dialysis machine in the spare bedroom for the last eight years.

The kidney transplant operation takes place at St James's Hospital in Leeds on Friday.

'My choice'

Dave told BBC Look North: "I have always known that one day I would be going into hospital to give dad one of my kidneys.

"When I started to get older people started to believed me."

"Now I'm old enough to make my own choice, and it's up to me what I do."

His father Mike said that saying thank you to his son was "inadequate."

He said: "It has got to be one of the best gifts you can give, and it is certainly one of the best gifts I have ever received."

"I will have to spend the rest of my life thanking him."
