Man falls to his death
An investigation is under way after a man fell to his death from the 13th floor of a block of flats when police went to arrest him.

Officers went to a flat at a tower block, in Bell Green Road, Coventry, to arrest the man who was wanted for allegedly breaching parole conditions.

West Midlands Police say officers were talking to the man when he climbed over the handrail of the balcony and jumped at 0715 GMT on Thursday.

The case has been referred to the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) for a supervised investigation.

Fair investigation

Ms Nicola Williams, from the authority, said: "I have agreed that the PCA will supervise the inquiry into this tragic incident.

"It will be carried out by Detective Chief Superintendent David Hunter of Humberside Police.

"We will ensure that a thorough and a fair investigation are carried out on behalf of the coroner," she said.

Ms Williams said a post-mortem examination would be carried out on Friday and the man could not be identified at this stage.
