Two held over airport cash theft
Two men dressed as security guards were arrested as they attempted to steal thousands of pounds worth of foreign currency from Gatwick Airport.

The money, thought to be in euros and US dollars, arrived on a flight on Wednesday.

Police said the pair drove a vehicle converted to look like a security van into the cargo area on Thursday morning.

Officers from Sussex Police and Scotland Yard's Flying Squad arrested the men, both in their 30s, as they tried to unload the money into their van at 0300 GMT.

'Audacious attempt'

It is thought the cash was worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Scotland Yard's Flying Squad Detective Chief Inspector Jim Dickie said: "This was an audacious attempted robbery of foreign currency bound for London banks.

"The co-ordinated efforts of both the Met and Sussex Police ensured that the robbers did not circumvent airport security."

The men are being questioned at Harrow Police Station.
