Police appeal after cars attacked
Police are appealing for witnesses after reports of men attacking cars with metal poles and wooden bats in the streets of Peterborough.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to Gladstone Street and Cobden Street near the city centre at about 2045 GMT on Wednesday after reports were received of cars being damaged.

A number of vehicles were battered in the attack and police recovered several metal poles and wooden bats.

The police helicopter was also called to the scene.

The spokeswoman said many local residents were refusing to talk to the police about the incident.

Residents reluctant to talk

A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said: "We have conducted a number of enquires in the area but so far people have been reluctant to provide us with names or information about what happened last night.

"I am appealing to people to contact the police if they have any information.

"If you are reluctant to contact the police please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where you can give your information anonymously."

A 32-year-old man from the city was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and violent disorder on Wednesday night and taken to Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.
