Tree death 'accidental', inquest rules
A verdict of accidental death has been recorded on an 11-year-old Shropshire girl who was killed when the branch of a tree fell on the car in which she was a passenger.

The accident occurred during last October's storms.

Cherry Bloor was in a car with her mother, Susan Bloor, and her sister, Trudie, travelling along the A41 between Whitchurch and Tern Hill.

Shrewsbury Coroners Court heard that Cherry, who lived in Longslow Road in Market Drayton, died instantly from severe head injuries when a branch from a 100-year-old oak tree fell on to the Vauxhall Cavalier and crushed it.

Her mother had to be cut free from the car and was airlifted to hospital.

Brindley Lloyd Parry, the farmer whose land fronts on to the A41 at Ashford Grange, told the inquest that it was his responsibility to look after the trees in the hedgerow and that he looked out for branches that might cause a problem.

Shropshire County Council's Forestry Officer, John Brassington, said the tree would have given the impression of being healthy and vigorous.
