The cash boost aims to help young children
Over £10m is to be injected into a project to build a string of new children's centres to help disadvantaged youngsters.

More than 16,000 children in the Bradford area will benefit from the new centres which will provide child care, early education and help for parents.

The government cash will be made available from April 2004.

And the programme proposed for the Bradford area is claimed to be the largest in Yorkshire.

Education Secretary Charles Clarke has said the centres will tackle child poverty by improving youngsters' social and educational development.

Detailed plans for the centres, including the probable locations, will be drawn up in October.
