Firefighters still at scrapyard fire
Easco fire
The fire broke out on Wednesday
About 50 firefighters were still at the scene of a massive blaze on Thursday morning at a scrap yard in Norfolk.

The flames took hold at the yard at Morton on the Hill some 10 miles north of Norwich on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday night thick smoke from the fire enveloped part of the city.

A Norfolk Fire Service spokesman said it is expected to burn for the next few days.

A police spokesman said the smoke was not thought to be toxic, but people nearby should take precautions nonetheless.

'It's very, very hot'

Earlier Graham Joy, of the Norfolk Fire Service, told the BBC that the fire was deep within a pile of 10,000 cars, making it difficult to put out.

"You can imagine the conditions for the firefighters down there - it's very very hot, there's an awful lots of smoke, and we've got the additional danger of fuel tanks exploding," he said.

Environment Agency officials are also at the scene to monitor the run-off. It is not yet known how the fire started.
