Plan to avoid crash bridge
Iron Bridge
Iron Bridge: Notorious blackspot
Details of a road scheme to solve one of the South West's worst traffic problems will be published on Thursday.

The Highways Agency has been working on proposals to replace the seven-mile single carriageway stretch of the A30 between the Bodmin and Indian Queens bypasses.

The plan is to re-route traffic to the north of the protected Goss Moor area.

This should also avoid problems with the notorious Iron Bridge, which impedes traffic on the current route.

The low bridge at Goss Moor is frequently hit, causing long tailbacks.

Supporters of the scheme say any road avoiding the bridge will improve the region's economy.

But environmentalists have expressed concern that the new route will damage a sensitive area.
