Cider maker cheers grants
Part of the grant will be used to develop new products
A Somerset cider producer has been awarded two grants to keep her traditional business going.
Janice Scott has been running the family farm in Watchfield for five years, continuing the 50-year-old tradition started by her father, Gordon Rich. She has been awarded the undisclosed grants by Defra. Mrs Scott told BBC News Online that the money had "made a big difference." 'Absolutely delighted' "We can kickstart the season now, she said. "I knew I needed to update the buildings and cater for the increasing number of tourists. "I was absolutely delighted when I found out that both grants had been approved. "It means that as well as developing new lines, I can make the cider-making experience even more enjoyable for those who visit the farm." One grant will be used to upgrade the car park and toilet facilities, and create a children's play area. The other will be used to update the production building and install pasteurisation equipment to help develop new products.
