Famous glass brand to be revived
300 workers lost their jobs when the factory closed
A company which has bought the former site of a famous Merseyside glass manufacturer has said it wants to revitalise its brand.
The Rayware Group is moving into the former Ravenhead Glass factory in Nuttall Street, St Helens in March. The firm was famous for making the old-style dimpled beer mug but closed in March 2001 with the loss of around 250 jobs after falling into financial difficulties. Rayway, which is based in Speke, Liverpool, said it would rebrand pint pots and other traditional glasses with the Ravenhead name.
It also hopes to create 200 new jobs at the site. Kate O'Neill, Rayware's marketing manager, said: "Ravenhead is a very, very strong name, a well known household name in glassware. "We really want to keep the brand name and redevelop it. "Quite a few of the names such as the dimpled beer mug which have been traditionally known as Ravenhead branded items have been rebranded as Ravenhead and are currently available in the UK." St Helens is also home to one of the UK's biggest glass manufacturers, Pilkington. |
