Police reopen Stansted access road
Police at Stansted
Extra officers are stationed at the airport
The access road to the terminal at Stansted Airport has reopened to the public, the airport has said.

At about 0930 GMT an airport spokesman said the road, closed since 0400 GMT, had been reopened.

Essex Police said the closure was a routine measure in connection with increased security at UK airports. They have increased the number of officers at Stansted as a result of the heightened security concerns this week.

It follows fears that terrorists could be planning attacks in the UK or United States and the closure of the north terminal of Gatwick Airport on Thursday.

A 37-year-old Venezuelan man was arrested there after a device that appeared to be a live grenade was found in his luggage on a flight from Colombia.

Other airports to increase security include Manchester, Leeds-Bradford and Jersey.
