Good Samaritan killed by roadside
police car
Police released the details of the freak accident
A 72-year-old man has been knocked down and killed after he went to help at the scene of a minor accident.

The pensioner was standing at the roadside in Nottinghamshire when another car collided with a stationary vehicle and shunted it into him.

Two other people standing with the elderly man were injured.

The accident happened just after 1800 GMT on Wednesday on the A616 Worksop Road at Edwinstowe.

Shocked driver

Police believe a group were exchanging details following a minor incident when the elderly driver pulled over to the side of the road to help.

A Renault Clio was partially blocking the carriageway when moments later a Toyota appeared from the direction of Ollerton and struck the car.

The force of the impact shunted the Clio into the elderly man, as well as a couple standing beside him.

The pensioner, a local man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 39-year-old man escaped with minor injuries, while the 33-year-old woman suffered chest and arm injuries.

They were both taken to the nearby King's Mill Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota was treated for shock.
