Fertility treatment can bring new hope to couples
A new fertility treatment will soon be available at the University Hospital in Hartlepool.

It should bring fresh hope to couples who thought they might never have children.

The treatment is called intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and involves injecting a single sperm into the egg.

Consultant gynaecologist at the hospital, Mohammed Menabawey, said he is confident they can treat all the patients who are waiting for the treatment.

Sperm injection

He said: "I think that because we are only a small clinic here we should be able to cope with all the people we see during the year.

"We have funds for that so there should hopefully be no waiting list."

ICSI can be is used to help men with low sperm counts father a child.
