Crews treat 30 after chemical leak
Roads around the area have reopened
About 30 people were treated by ambulance crews after a chemical leak at Cambridge Science Park.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the Heraeus Noblelight factory on the Milton Road site at 1030 GMT. Emergency services have identified the leaked substance as hydrogen sulphide. Cambridgeshire Police said the leak was likely due to a filtration problem at the German-owned company, which manufactures ultraviolet and laser lamps. Minor symptoms Staff reported skin irritation and runny noses from exposure to the gas, which is found in stink bombs and smells similar to rotten eggs. Police said that everyone affected had recovered from the incident. Many were treated at the scene by ambulance crews and but some were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for further care. Staff in other buildings on the park were warned to stay indoors, turn off all air conditioning and keep their windows closed during the incident. |
