Scene of crash
One woman died in the crash on the M4 last Friday
A woman who died when the car she was driving crashed on the M4 in Wiltshire has been named by police.

Gemma Monk, 25, from Rayleigh in Essex, died when her Ford Focus was involved in a three-car pile up on 7 February.

Mrs Monk's 32-year-old husband Jason is recovering from spinal injuries sustained in the accident. He is in a stable condition at Swindon's Great Western Hospital.

The couple's 14-month-old baby Emily suffered serious head injuries and is in a critical condition at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital.

Two other people were seriously injured

Their families are said to be completely devastated by what has happened.

The accident happened on the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 16 and 17 at around 2145 GMT on Friday.

A Volkswagen (VW) camper van, a Peugeot 306 and a Ford Focus estate car were involved.

It is thought the Ford Focus crashed into the back of the camper van which had stopped in the outside lane of the carriageway.

The Ford Focus and the camper van then caught fire. Mrs Monk was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people travelling in the VW sustained minor injuries and were treated at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Police said the occupants of the Peugeot were shocked, but did not require treatment.
